Rouge Woods

Richmond hill is a GTA city situated North of Toronto. It comprises 18 communities, including fifteen residential neighbourhoods, two commercial districts, and one rural community.

The terrain of the southern part of Richmond Hill is relatively flat, while the northern is somewhat uneven. The city possesses many large and small lakes, forming five golf clubs, 166 parks, 544 hectares of the nature reserve, and a provincial Oak Ridge nature reserve. Many Richmond Hill neighbourhoods, such as Bayview Hill and Jefferson, are well-known. And the Rouge Woods community is located in the middle of Richmond Hill.

Community Overview

The community of Rough Woods runs from Leslie at East, to Major Mackenzie Dr in the south, Bayview Ave on the west, and Elgin Mills in the north. Many locals and immigrants like Rough Woods because of its convenient transportation, top schools, and excellent shopping.

The community environment is beautiful. The Rouge River Headwaters Valley and Trails wander via the community. Several community parks, such as Headwaters Community Park, Redstone, and Willow Grove, are also available for residents' recreation activities.

1. Housing:

Houses in Rouge Woods Richmond Hill are dominated by detached homes, accounting for about 66% of residential real estate, while semi and Townhouses only about 32%. There is plenty of space, and one can truly appreciate the freedom and leisure of community life. Most houses in the area are around 20-30 years old, and for middle-class families, 3 to 4 bedrooms and single to double garage houses are very common.

From MLS listings, in the past 90 days, Rouge Woods Richmond Hill sold 15 detached houses on average of $1,994,185; 19 Attached town home, Semi-detached and Link houses on average of $1,312,611.

2. Demographic:

About 50% population speak Cantonese, Mandarin, and other Chinese dialects, followed by Middle Eastern, Arabic, South Korean, and Eastern Europeans. Most residents here are homeowners.

More than half of the families are young people who have a higher education level and are engaged in management, business, accounting and computer fields. The average annual household income is close to 100,000, exceeding the national average. Around 80% of families have children. The cost of mortgage and children's education is their major expense.

3. Transportation:

The Rouge Woods community is well-connected to many major cities. If you are travelling by car, you can take highway 404 at Major Mac in the south or Elgin Mills in the north, and it takes only about 10 minutes to get to the highway entrance and exit from anywhere in the area. GO Train Richmond Hill Station is on the district's west side, only ten minutes away from the station. The YRT on Bayview has direct access to the Finch subway station, and the YRT on Elgin Mills has direct access to the subway Don Mills station. Along highway 404, we have witnessed rapid development in the past several years. The former farmland and green space have become new districts, the population has expanded rapidly, and the traffic is much more congested than ten years ago.

4. Recreation:

The Rough Woods community has one of the best recreational facilities in many areas, providing residents with ample spaces for excises and a healthy lifestyle. Located right in the centre of this district, the community centre has several meeting rooms and classrooms for residents to use and provides a variety of community courses for residents. Moreover, there are three tennis courts, two football fields with lighting equipment, two ordinary football fields and one baseball field, with many advanced types of equipment that no other communities can compare. In addition, the 102 acres of Richmond Hill Sports Center provides residents with 26,000 square feet of indoor activity space, creating two indoor skating rinks, four softball fields, 3 Baseball fields and five football fields.

5. Shopping:

Life is inseparable from the purchase of various daily necessities and food. For ordinary families, the convenience of shopping determines the recognition of the community. Many supermarkets and numerous retail stores are scattered around the neighbourhood in Rouge Woods, making shopping very convenient. It only takes about 15 minutes to drive to supermarkets such as Haojing Supermarket and T&T., and there are four shopping malls of different sizes in the area. The most prosperous one is the shopping mall at the junction of Bayview and Major Mac in the southwest corner, including Wal-Mart, Metro, Canada Computers, The Shoe Company, Shoppers Drug Mark, Post Canada, medical centres, restaurants of all types, branches of HSBC Bank and BMO Bank. In the southeast corner, at the junction of Leslie and Major Mac are supermarkets Fresh Co, LCBO, Tim Hortons, RBC Bank and some restaurants. The commercial centre at the northeast corner of Leslie and Elgin Mills has Home Depot, Costco, Business Depot, TD Bank, Scotia Bank, and a medical building.

6. Schools:

Rouge Woods community belongs to one of the best school districts.

There are four public primary schools in the district. Silver Stream Primary School has a gifted class; Richmond Rose is the oldest primary school in the community, ranking 169 out of 3037 primary schools in the province in the past several years; Michael Jean is a French school; Redstone is the newest primary school. There is another Catholic primary school in the district, Our Lady Help.

Bayview Secondary School and Richmond Green are great secondary schools in the area. Bayview Secondary School was ranked No. 8 in Ontario. Students and parents highly value the IB program at Bayview Secondary School. Many graduates have been admitted to prestigious universities in recent years. Richmond Green is a relatively new school but a rising star among high schools. It is worth mentioning here that the division of the community has a direct impact on housing prices. Rouge River divided the Rouge Woods community into two high schools districts. Resident students in the southwest belong to Bayview Secondary School, and the northeast side belongs to Richmond Green Secondary School. To determine which school zone your house is in, please check with the york district school board. Although Richmond Green High School is a good school, it is still behind Bayview Secondary School measured by EQAO testing result. Therefore, Bayview Second School Zone houses are generally more expensive than houses in the Richmond Green school zone.
